A Message from Our Senior Pastor – Dr Owen Facey
We are living in uncertain times and I know that many of us are, frankly, fearful about what the future holds regarding the coronavirus situation.
Let me remind you that God has not changed, and this situation is not new to him. With him all is present, because he is eternal. We are just seeing this today, but he saw it from the beginning. Having said that, he is not just trying to figure out a solution. The solution is already decided.
Let me also remind you that God has given us a spirit of love and a sound mind and not a spirit of fear (2 Tim. 1:7). Three important truths from this passage. First, God does not want us to live with fear. Although this situation is serious and must be contended with, we don’t have to fear, because God is in control. When we become fearful, we can often make many mistakes. We become overwhelmed and cease to think and act with purpose. So, we must be calm in this situation and refuse to panic.
Second, we are given a spirit of love. This means we must endeavor to love each other, comfort and strengthen each other. I know that touching is not recommended, and social distancing is the path but let us not become discriminating of each other and blame different ethnic groups because we think they are the ones responsible for the spread of this disease. Let us continue to practice love and pray for each other. We can do this through emails, phone calls, text etc.
Finally, the scripture reminds us that God gives us a sound mind. This means we must be wise. Take all the necessary precautions. Last week I gave us some of those guidelines. Some will be repeated below. These come from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Department of Education. Practice all the safety measures and limit exposure. With that, let me give you the response guidelines from Genesis Christian Church.
There are many common-sense steps that you can take to limit the spread of COVID-19. For 80% of cases, it is a relatively mild illness that does not require hospitalization. While there is currently no way to eliminate COVID-19, we can slow down its spread and protect our vulnerable population by:
